Are Cinemagraphs effective in online marketing?

Cinemagraphs - images with motion. What is it all about and how do they work compared to images and video in online markering? While searching online for numbers I stumbled upon insights from several marketeers, companies and data driven analysis who have compared the actual effect of publishing a cinemagraphs instead of an image. I give you a short summary here.

Compared to images
- The viewer tends to spend more time looking at the image.
- In some campaigns it increased engagement over 100 procent.
- Cinemagraphs stands out in the media landscape and easily grabs attention. It surprises the viewer with its combination of motion and still image.
- It can be used very effectively on outdoor displays, on campaign sites and in SoMe feeds.

How do they work?
Cineamgraphs contains a “loop” and can be as short as two seconds long. But looped. There are several technical solutions to distribute cinemagraphs. For our clients we normally offer embedded code or a link. It can be uploaded to video services as a film and then be continually played. The way to produce them differ with the purpose. But think of a still image taken out from a film, then in post production we add motion and apply digital effects, special effects and grading to some selected parts of the image.

Take
Cinemagraphs are highly effective. Right produced and distributed - your story can reach and engage a vast amount of your target group. They should therefore always be a part of your online strategy and be used as a complementary image or film to your main media. It gives you a smart toolbox where you have customised media content for multiple channels.
